Earlier this year,
Birkenstock announced a collaboration project with Dior. The new Birkenstock
collection is scheduled to make an appearance at Kim Jones’ AW22 menswear show
at Paris Fashion Week. The collaboration features two new Dior-inspired designs
on the classic Birkenstock Tokio and Milano sandals.
Dior and Birkenstock
have announced that their collaboration is “a glamorous ode to the Dior house’s
legacy and Birkenstock’s unrivaled functional aspects.” The shoes’ designs are
said to be inspired by an haute couture dress from Dior’s 1957
collection.
The reimagined Tokio and
Milano shoes feature two color schemes and material options: gray felt and tan
suede. All the shoes come with a leather buckle, embossed with the Dior name.
Some notable design features from the collaborations are the hand-embroidered
patterns and stitches by Dior’s personal ateliers. Especially on the gray felt
Tokio mules, which feature a delicate floral scenery made up of careful floral
stitches and flower appliqués.
The Dior by Birkenstock collaboration is not yet
available to the public but is scheduled to debut sometime in June 2022. Shoppers
can sign up for the newsletter on the Birkenstock 1774 website to get
early access to the collection.
